22 October 2020

On October 21, 2020 within the framework of the XXIV International Conference of Rospatent, the Eighth Trilateral Russian-Chinese-Mongolian Seminar “Issues of Industrial Design Protection” was held. The event was held under the chairmanship of Rospatent via videoconference.

During the Seminar specialists from Rospatent, the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration and the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia shared information on national systems of industrial designs protection, including legislation and statistics, and reviewed in detail the procedures for registering industrial designs in each country.

The participants noted that in all three countries industrial design is subject to patent law, but the examination procedures of applications have significant differences. Russia and Mongolia are also Member States of the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs, while China is currently working on acceding this agreement.

Background information: thematic trilateral seminars of Russian, Chinese and Mongolian IP Offices have been held annually since 2013. During the seminars, experts discuss various aspects of intellectual property. The previous 7th Trilateral Russian-Chinese-Mongolian seminar, held on August 29-30, 2019 in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), was devoted to geographical indications.
